To tell you the truth I never even knew that life insurance was so specialized that it included child insurance. To answer the question properly one would have to know what cover is actually offered in the insurance policy and how it actually works and what factors are involved in actually collecting payment.
If it was simply a way of putting money aside for your kids then I would say it was a very good idea because at least this way you are forced to save for their future. Without it you may have the intention to put money aside but too many factors may prevent you from doing so.
