Using Chango To Monetize Your Blog

I have just come across another adsense type ad that you can run alongside adsense itself. Awhile ago I did an a post on Wassup called There IS Life After Google Adsense! In this post I spoke about how Google disabled my account on my BS blog and how I was trialling BidVertiser. Today I want to talk to you about Chango SearchSpots.

I’m not actually running Chango ads on this blog yet as I’m still in trial mode at the moment but. The thing is if you were to pop over to Wassup right now you  won’t see anything because you only see the ad if you’ve come here via a search engine. That’s one of the positive points that I like about this Chango, especially if you have a blog that you don’t want to fill with ads. Using Chango means that your regular readers won’t be bothered with these ads but you have the potential to make money on those others that come via the search engines, especially as the ads are keyword generated!

OK, that can be a major positive for some people, but there is one thing that is very important for you to know. Chango only targets people from the USA and Canada! That means that the ads will not show to anyone outside of these two countries. Some of you may actually consider that to be a major positive as well, especially if most of your traffic comes from those two countries!

Once you’ve installed these ads you can actually test them, remember you won’t see them unless sent by a search engine, by writing a string of words in your browser window immediately following the url. The image you see below is the result of typing ?keywords=blogging for money at the end of the url.

If your from the States or Canada you may want to try changing the keywords to see what results you get. Unfortunately being from Australia it doesn’t work for me. This screen shot was actually taken by Brian, one of Chango’s very professional employees who’s been most helpful to me.

That alone is another great positive, these guys know about customer service, something that is lacking in Google.

Any way, although these ads work well alongside Google you may not want to run another set of ads on your site. If this is the case then you can set it up so that it runs in the same spot that you’re currently running adsense. The way this works is that when setting up the ad you choose to show an alternative ad. If you choose that ad to be Google then that’s the ad that will show, unless someone comes via a search engine and then Chango will pop up in it’s place.

Another benefit of being a Chango SearchSpots publisher is they have a referral program which can add to you passive income as you will earn 10% for 15 months on all referrals. You will notice that while the ads are not displaying, in my header and at the end of my posts, you will see a link in it’s place, Search Retargeting by Chango, and I’ve heard that there are future plans where people who join after clicking on this link will join your team. Note, this is not the case at the moment.

Another point that may interest you is Chango is a venture-backed company that is partnered with Yahoo! This means they have a large suppository of ads to choose from, enabling them to match a whole lot of keywords.

Seeing as how I’ve only just trialling them you can expect a followup post where I will tell you how they are actually performing.

Squidoo And How It Can Help Your Marketing

Finally! After sitting on this damn project for close on two years I have finally published my first, and definitely not my last Squidoo Lens!  I hope that you would take the time to follow that link and rate and fav it for me. If you have a lens and would like me to reciprocate just leave a comment with a link to your lens.

I was highly motivated to complete this lens because I wanted to utilize the marketing potential of Squidoo.? I did a post on WassupBlog called  Necessity The Mother Of Invention And How It Relates To Blogs where I talked about how you find ways of doing something when there is a need to get something done. Those who know me know that I don’t do all that much to market this blog other than to comment on other blogs. That doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to market it, just that I’ve never had the need or desire to do it.

So, what’s changed? It’s all because of the post Quick Update On People Search Money Opportunity, an update on the original How The People Search Craze Could Put Money In Your Pocket post that describes a way of monetizing the a particular facet of the web. The need for knowledge, in particular knowing where a particular person can be found. Apparently 30% of all searches on Google and Yahoo are people search related and that’s a huge market.

I decided to try and get a portion of that market, but to do that I need to expand my marketing skills. I need people to find my site before anyone else’s and I decided that Squidoo was going to be a small part of that plan. The problem was which of the many available landing pages do I direct the traffic to, seeing as they’re all good and each one would possible target a different market.

My solution was to design my own squeeze page landing page, one that would incorporate most of the better links. Thanks to FlexSqueeze and it’s squeeze page facility I now have my own specially designed landing page. Although I will be using this page on the majority of my blogs I will only be using the one on this site as the targeted page.

I’m not sure how many of you have heard of or use Squidoo, but honestly if you haven’t got your own lens yet you could be missing out. If you check out my Squidoo Lens you will notice that I have links linking to several of my posts. If you construct it in such a way it would be a great way to market your blog. Not only will it give your posts extra link juice,  there’s also the extra traffic that it will bring.

A Comparison Of Paid To Post Sites

I’ve always said that there are many ways of making money on the Internet, and one of the ways I have touched on before is doing paid posts. Naturally before you decide to go this route you have to remember that Google frowns upon people who do paid posts and if they find out they will remove all your PR. If your not concerned about PR, then you should definitely consider some of the many companies that will act as the go between you and the advertisers.

To help you decide which companies to join you may want to read this post on a comparison of Blog Firms. Personally I would put PayU2Blog above PayPerPost which I believe belongs closer to the bottom, but like I said, that’s my personal opinion.
